As a big proponent of the "treat yoself" movement, I'll be the first to admit I love a good weekly face mask. That said, when I ran out of my favorite Origins charcoal mask, I first got sad..and then I got crafty. I had read many articles singing the praises of activated charcoal but it wasn't until I spied it at our local health food store that I decided to see whether or not a DIY version it stacked up to my favorite store bought mask.
After whipping up a batch and smearing the black goo all over my face, I was proudly fresh faced at a fraction of the price of the bottled stuff. While I still love the Origins version--especially because it's a little thicker and feels a bit more luxurious--this recipe is a great low-cost version which I can appreciate as a woman on a budget.
Things You'll Need
- 2 tsp Activated Charcoal
- 1 tsp Rosewater (or distilled water)
- 1 tsp Aloe Vera Gel (or lemon juice if you don't have aloe vera)
1.) Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl and apply gently.
Do not exfoliate your face beforehand, however I recommend doing so afterward as it can leave some charcoal residue on your face--especially if you have fair skin.
