DIY Tin Candle

Hi all! Sorry we've been a little absent lately, we're been been busy with preparations for shooting our Home Shoppe Kickstarter this weekend with the oh-so-talented Laura Murray! More updates on the Kickstarter soon, but in the meantime, check out our cute DIY tin candle post below :)

Being the big Harney & Sons tea drinkers (and closet hoarders) we are, we've been saving the gorgeous tin packaging for some unknown future craft project when it hit us--we'll turn them into candles! We <3 our pretty Harney & Sons tins, but if you find yourself tin-less, it's easy to thrift your own vintage tins at a nearby antique store. We found that not only was this DIY simple, but it added an adorable, unexpected touch to our room.

Wanna make your own DIY tin candle? You're gonna need:

  • Decorative tin (make sure yours doesn't leak by testing with water beforehand)
  • Soy candle wax (we bought microwavable wax from Michael's and it made our lives sooo much easier!)
  • Candle wick with metal base (make sure yours is pre-coated with wax)
  • Cake pop stick or chopsticks
  • Essential oils for scent. (optional)
  • Instructions:

Step 1:) Center candle wick with metal base in your tin. Gently wrap excess wick around cake pop stick/chop stick and lay across top of tin.

Step 2.) Melt wax according to directions on box and pour into tin. Other wax kits may require stove top melting with a double boiler, but we recommend microwavable wax for convenience :)

Step 3.) If you're adding essential oil, add it during this step.

Step 4.) Let wax harden overnight and it's ready to use.

    Enjoy!
